Ed Boon Wants To Make Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Remaster

MK Creator Wants Shaolin Monks Remaster!

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is an action-adventure brawler launched in 2005. The spin-off game is set right after the events of the original Mortal Kombat and is a popular entry in the franchise. Over the years, the title has become a fan-favorite, and many have come to reminisce about the spin-off.

Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, posted a new tweet expressing an interest in a remaster or a sequel of the fan-favorite game.

However, Ed Boon has also shown interest in a remaster or a sequel of the title before. In the same tweet, he also mentioned Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was originally intended to be a single-player game with Raiden being featured as the main character, but the idea was scrapped for better or worse.

During the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon did a Q&A regarding the franchise. One person asked about a possible sequel of the game, to which he replied, “God, I hope So.” He was also asked about an HD remaster and replied, “In the NRS Vault,” which implies that there was once a concept of a remastered version of the game, but it could never see the light of day.

In 2021, Ed Boon created a poll on Twitter asking fans what Mortal Kombat game they’d like to see remastered. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks won the poll with a whopping 150,000 votes. As such, a remaster or a sequel is long overdue at this point, and fans are craving news about the potential game.

No official announcement regarding the game has been made at this point. A while ago, some fans modded Mortal Kombat 11 to showcase what a sequel to Shaolin Monks would look like. The concept looked terrific and showcased the potential for a new Shaolin Monks game.
