The previous game in the franchise was well-received by fans and sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Like Octopath Traveler, players can pick one protagonist out of eight available characters. However, the remaining characters and their stories will be unlocked sooner or later in the game.

Octopath Traveler 2 also carries over the visually pleasing aesthetic and turn-based combat many enjoyed in the previous game. Crossed Paths introduce stories between party characters, allowing players to explore the main characters throughout the game.

Each character features Latent Powers, allowing them to execute unique moves in combat. The day and night cycle further adds to the combat variety, mixing things up with different quests and enemies depending on the time of day.

However, some reviews have criticized Octopath Traveler 2 for not doing enough to separate itself from its predecessor. Other criticisms involve the excessive grind players can run into when leveling different party members. Thankfully, the excellent combat system makes the grind significantly more tolerable.

Octopath Traveler 2 launches on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 consoles on 24 February. The game will also be available on PC platforms like Steam.
