While Assassin’s Creed Shadows received a divided reaction between critics and long-time fans, it’s hard to deny that Ubisoft’s magnum opus was also visually one of the best-looking games of 2025. The French publisher has been working on this project for quite a few years, and the results were pretty apparent in its stunning lighting, textures, and the impressive recreation of feudal Japan.
The tech experts at Digital Foundry have also decided on the best and worst PC ports of this year, and for the better ones, Assassin’s Creed Shadows made the list. Rightfully so, the RPG deserved a spot on this list for its impressive PC-exclusive features and customisatzon options that push the game’s visual fidelity far beyond what consoles offer.
The experts praised Ubisoft for offering robust graphics-scaling options that can be tweaked to deliver the best results, and even on higher-end PCs, there wasn’t much of a performance hit, even when settings were tuned up. Anvil engine is known to put a heavy load on CPUs or GPUs, but this time around, Assassin’s Creed Shadows provides a great balance across both components’ usage.
On PC, specular lighting combined with the RTGI solution adds depth to make real-looking reflections that cannot be replicated on consoles. Furthermore, post-launch support has been great too, and Ubisoft recently added a framerate unlocker for cutscenes, further refining the PC experience.

The console ports are well done too, on the other hand, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an enjoyable experience, even on the Xbox Series S.
As for Digital Foundry’s best PC ports other than Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the list is shared by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and DOOM: The Dark Ages. As for the worst ports, Oblivion Remastered, The Outer Worlds 2, and Monster Hunter: World, were deemed terrible by the experts.
