2025 has been an eye-opener for major publishers and studios since this was the year that AA and Indie games rose to the top. Even the two frontrunners in the FPS market, Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6, failed to take off, despite the latter having a fantastic start.
Christmas holidays are the time when video gaming reaches its peak due to sales on hardware and software, and generally, gamers have more free time compared to the rest of the year. Unfortunately for Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7, even Santa wasn’t kind to them, as they both have lost significant player counts and Battlefield 6 even more so.
At the time of this article’s publication, Black Ops 7 has a player count of 47k players only.

At the same time, Battlefield 6 is a bit above but still relatively lower in players at roughly 84k players right now.

Surprisingly, the highest player count that Black Ops 7 had was only at 73k players in the entirety of December, which is quite disappointing for a franchise at such a high calibre. On the flip side, Battlefield 6’s highest count was at 185k players, which may seem a lot at first, but given that the game’s highest count was at nearly 750k players a couple of months ago, EA’s magnum opus has lost nearly 80% of its playerbase.
While Call of Duty and Battlefield may be struggling, Arc Raiders, on the other hand, also crowned the best multiplayer game at the TGA this year, is on a roll. The extraction shooter is averaging 300k players for the past few days, which is a respectable player base.
Going back to the topic at hand, Black Ops 7 is considered to be a lost cause by many, and even die-hard Call of Duty fans missed out on the title this year. However, Battlefield 6 has a solid structure, and while the Battle Royale mode wasn’t what fans had expected, EA still has a chance to encapsulate the lost fan base once again.
