Job Listing Hints At The Last of Us Standalone Multiplayer Coming To PS4
PS4 Players Rejoice!
Naughty Dog is currently working on a multiplayer mode for The Last of Us universe, and it will be released as a standalone title. Information on the mode is limited, but Naughty Dog is expected to reveal more details this year.
Many fans have also been curious about the platforms for The Last of Us multiplayer. Naughty Dog has not confirmed anything yet, but the developer previously skipped PS4 with The Last of Us Part 1.

Furthermore, one of the requirements for the job states:
Working knowledge of PS4 and PS5 systems.
This likely means that the upcoming standalone game will be a cross-gen release. Naughty Dog may have decided to make this move to bring a larger player base to the new entry in The Last of Us universe.
Previously, Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part 1 exclusively for the PS5. This led to speculation that the developer had moved on from the PS4 console, and fans were curious if this would also hold for The Last of Us standalone multiplayer.
But it looks like this will not be the case for their next endeavor. The PS4 has proven capable of running high-fidelity games like The Last of Us Part 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Furthermore, large-scale multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends have also worked well on the nearly decade-old hardware.
As such, fans on the last-gen console might be able to enjoy the next game from the developer. Last year, Neil Druckmann revealed that the team’s vision for multiplayer had grown beyond an additional mode. Naughty Dog is also introducing a new story, new characters, and more.
